Meet Rocky Linux

Rocky Linux, the up-and-coming CentOS replacement, has been announced and the project is already starting to gain traction. Currently, there is a skeleton website up and running at rockylinux.org along with Discourse forums, Slack chat, and GitHub. But why the name “Rocky Linux”?

“Thinking back to early CentOS days… My cofounder was Rocky McGaugh. He is no longer with us, so as a H/T to him, who never got to see the success that CentOS came to be, I introduce to you…Rocky Linux”
— Gregory Kurtzer, Founder

We’re excited to see what the future holds for Rocky Linux!

I am a Cloud Engineer currently working in the financial and web hosting industry. My passion has been Linux since I first discovered it in 2005. Throughout my career, I have always implemented Linux wherever possible and am an advocate of using open source software over proprietary whenever possible. I strongly believe in the UNIX philosophy of "Do One Thing and Do It Well". I started The Linux Lab as a way for people to discover Linux (and UNIX in general, even macOS users) and to find solutions to problems and learn about Linux.
